I'll be your mirror
Reflect what you are, in case you don't know
I'll be the wind, the rain and the sunset
The light on your door to show that you're home[1]

Paint as a fleshy thing to be embraced, abraded. We’re not sure the difference between a lyric and a poem besides the one being closer acquainted with music, but it’s to these we feel drawn when thinking about Rema Ghuloum’s work. They are pleasurable, expansive things, these paintings. Intimately scaled, but not necessarily so. It’s the just-so-ness of these pieces, exactly as they are, especially hung amidst their sisters, that is hard to place in language. Paintings that are glowing, alive.

There’s history in these surfaces, but also the joy of renewal.
